Jed and I have talked...a lot, about what to do in honor of our son. Our Angel Baby:
Beckett Donald was born April 7, 2010 5 weeks early due to placenta aburption. He stayed 2 weeks in the NICU and came home as a happy, healthy baby boy. We were so excited to start our new adventure with our 5th child, 2nd boy! Beckett's siblings took care of him like a precious piece of gold...he was fought over endlessly.
At 4 months and 2 days old, I laid Beckett down to sleep for a nap and checked on him 15 minutes later to find him lifeless and blue. Grabbing him I ran to my neighbors house who immediately began CPR. After the EMTs transferred him to our local hospital, I was told that they could not resuscitate. In those minutes my whole life changed...I changed. I lost a HUGE piece of my heart.
At the hospital, after holding my precious baby in my arms for hours, the hospital provided me with a Teddy Bear, blanket, grieving information, etc. and at first...I didn't want it. I remember wanting to throw it across the room...I wanted my baby, alive. To this day...that bear sits on my dresser - wearing Beckett's hat - and he is my favorite decorative piece in my bedroom. I look at him daily...he reminds me of my sweet baby. Although, he may represent that day but I tend to look at him as a symbol of my child - something I can hold, squeeze and love.
I would like to provide these Bears for those families that have found themselves in this horrible situation. Something that they can cling to...hold onto when their own world is falling apart.
I am setting up a donation of either BEARS or MONEY (to buy Teddy Bears) to donate to Avista Hospital in Louisville, Colorado.
My kid's are SO excited to be apart of this donation and have already each picked out a Bear to donate. Our first goal is to donate 50 bears on BECKETT'S 2nd Birthday - April 7, 2012. Please help us meet our goal!! Of course we will need help putting our tag on each bear SO we will be having a TAGGING party the end of March - information to be released as date get closer...thanks for everyone's support!!

I remember that evening when they presented you with the Bear. I was thinking that, it was only going to make you upset...your Baby just died...She doesn't want a Teddy Bear! Little did I know how much that Bear meant to you. You didn't stop holding that Bear into the late morning the next day. I remember them saying that they didn't want your arms to be empty. I'm so happy that you've chosen to do this for others in the same situation. I'll donate 1 Bear for each of my Grandchildren gladly!
ReplyDeleteOh Ashley!! I LOVE this idea. What a wonderful tribute to Beckett! <3 I hope someday I can do something on behalf of Savannah in this way. Your little man was blessed to have you for a mommy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!!
